1) What are subject pronouns?
Subject pronouns are 'I', 'You', 'He', 'She', 'It', 'We', 'You' and 'They'. They replace the subject of a sentence or clause.
Example:
John is hungry. John eats pizza.
John is hungry. He eats pizza.
2) Use
❖ We use subject pronouns before the verb to determine who does the action.
- I: for one person who speaks.
Example:
I kicked the ball.
- You: for one person to whom we speak.
Example:
You like to study.
- He: for one male person about whom we speak or one animal whose sex is known.
Examples:
He plays volleyball every week.
John has a dog called Milo. He is three years old.
- She: for one female person about whom we speak or one animal whose sex is known.
Examples:
She likes ice cream.
Sam has a cat called Fluffy. She is two years old.
- It: for one thing or one animal that we speak about.
Examples:
It bites John.
It is tall.
- We: for two or more people who speak.
Example:
We play basketball.
- You: for two or more people to whom we speak.
Example:
You drank water.
- They: for two or more people, things or animals that we speak about.
Examples:
They play football.
They meowed.
