1) What are possessive pronouns?


Possessive pronouns are 'Mine', 'Yours', 'His', 'Hers', '--', 'Ours', 'Yours' and 'Theirs'. They replace a possessive adjective + noun.
Example:
This bed is my bed.
This bed is mine.

2) Use

❖ We use possessive pronouns instead of a 'possessive adjective + noun' to avoid repetition.

- Mine: for 'my + noun'.
Examples:
This book is my book.
This book is mine.
These books are my books.
These books are mine.

- Yours: for 'your + noun'.
Examples:
The pen is your pen.
The pen is yours.
The pens are your pens.
The pens are yours.

- His: for 'his + noun'.
Examples:
This watch is his watch.
This watch is his.
These watches are his watches.
These watches are his.

- Hers: for 'her + noun'.
Examples:
The dog is her dog.
The dog is hers.
The dogs are her dogs.
The dogs are hers.

- --: for its + noun we use 'noun + ’s'.
Examples:
This ball is its ball.
This ball is the dog’s.
These balls are its balls.
These balls are the dog’s.

- Ours: for 'our + noun'.
Examples:
The ball is our ball.
The ball is ours.
The balls are our balls.
The balls are ours.

- Yours: for 'your + noun'.
Examples:
This ball is your ball.
This ball is yours.
These balls are your balls.
These balls are yours.

- Theirs: for 'their + noun'.
Examples:
The ball is their ball.
The ball is theirs.
